India Forces Australian Cricket YouTube Channel to Take Down All IPL Related Content

Indian cricket authorities have ordered the popular Australian YouTube channel, The Grade Cricketer podcast, which has over a million viewers worldwide, to take down all videos related to this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

The show’s hosts, Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, received a legal notice from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL, demanding the removal of videos that used IPL photos and logos for what they called “commercial” purposes.

To avoid being banned or suspended from digital platforms, the podcast’s creators removed all IPL-related videos from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X. Their daily IPL show, “The Big IPL Breakfast,” may also need a new name.

The legal action was triggered by the use of still images from IPL matches, which the BCCI says can only be used for editorial, not commercial, purposes. The Grade Cricketer’s videos included sponsorships, which may have led to the crackdown.

Despite the takedown, the podcast will continue covering the IPL, but without using official images or team names. The hosts are also planning live shows in India during the tournament.
