Meta Just Launched Its AI App and It Knows More About You Than ChatGPT

Meta is rolling out a standalone AI app after integrating Meta AI into WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. Unveiled at the LlamaCon event, this new app gives users access to Meta’s chatbot in a dedicated interface, much like ChatGPT or Google Gemini.

How Meta Plans to Stand Out

Unlike other AI apps, Meta’s assistant can tailor responses based on years of personal data users have already shared across Facebook and Instagram. The company says it will use your profile info and content engagement history to make the AI more relevant, though this personalization is currently limited to users in the US and Canada.

Additionally, you can teach the AI more about yourself. For example, if you tell it you’re lactose intolerant, it could avoid suggesting wine and cheese pairings in the future.

Privacy Questions Remain

Although the concept of personalized AI appears appealing and convenient, users need to approach it with a healthy dose of caution.

Meta relies heavily on targeted advertising, which raises significant concerns about how the company might use data gathered from AI interactions in the long term. With stakes this high, users should remain vigilant about the potential use of their personal information in ways that could impact their privacy and autonomy.

Social Feed Adds a Twist

The app also introduces a Discover feed, where users can choose to share AI interactions with friends. In one example, a user asks the bot to describe them using emojis and posts the result. Meta says posts will only appear in the feed with user permission.
