Islamabad United are battling a mini crisis ahead of their crucial PSL 2025 fixture against Quetta Gladiators tonight, and their task has gotten a whole lot tougher with reports that Shadab Khan will not be fit enough to make the playing XI.
Islamabad United’s captain has been ruled out of today’s clash due to a groin issue picked up during the team’s defeat to Peshawar Zalmi last night.
The experienced all-rounder experienced discomfort in his groin while batting late in United’s innings. Though he managed a brisk 15 off just 8 deliveries, including three boundaries, Shadab was visibly uncomfortable towards the end of his stay and did not come on to bowl during Zalmi’s chase.
Following medical assessment and in consultation with the team’s physiotherapy staff, the decision was made to rest him from tonight’s match as a precaution. Islamabad United are expected to take a conservative approach to his recovery, with the playoffs on the horizon and Shadab Khan’s fitness deemed critical to the side’s ambitions in the latter stages of the tournament.
This is a significant absence for United, not just from a tactical standpoint but also in terms of leadership. Shadab has been central to the team’s success this season, as a captain and a key contributor with bat and ball.
While the franchise hasn’t confirmed a timeline for Shadab’s return, there is hope he will be able to recover in time for the latter stages of the tournament.
Islamabad United have two games left in the group stage after tonight’s game, with Quetta and Karachi Kings on the itinerary. Their qualification to the next stage is practically guaranteed, meaning Shadab can take as much time as he needs to recover from this niggle.
