Pakistan cricket team’s fortunes in T20I cricket haven’t been the brightest in recent months, and it appears that fact is not lost on one of its own very promising batters, Saim Ayub. The young left-hander recently named his dream international XI and left out some really big names, which has sent the internet into detective mode.
Saim shared his picks on Peshawar Zalmi’s podcast after he was asked to select his ideal T20I XI from players who are still active, but with one rule: no more than two players from the same country. Even with that rule, Saim chose just one Pakistani player, opening batter Fakhar Zaman. He picked Fakhar to open the innings with Australia’s Travis Head. Together, they would form a powerful and aggressive start to any T20 match.

Although it is just a light-hearted answer to a harmless question, there is always a possibility of it snowballing into something it is not. Many will be surprised that names like Babar Azam or any other from Pakistan do not appear in Saim Ayub’s list, but their absence isn’t without merit.
Pakistan simply hasn’t impressed enough in the international arena, and with only eleven slots, there are much better options out there—something Saim points out. The 22-year-old also ruled himself out as he is still trying to find his best form. After missing several months due to injury, he returned to cricket during the ongoing PSL 10 with Peshawar Zalmi. So far, he hasn’t made a big impact this season, but he remains one of Pakistan’s brightest young talents.
