Pakistan’s Prize Money for World Test Championship Revealed

Pakistan finishing bottom of the World Test Championship rankings has a sliver of silver lining because of the prize money involved.

The Green Shirts will walk away with USD $480,000 from the third edition of the ICC World Test Championship (2023–25), as the governing body unveiled a record $5.76 million prize pool for this cycle — the highest in WTC history. The announcement comes just under a month before the grand final between South Africa and Australia, set to be played at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground from June 11 to 15, 2025.

While Pakistan finished ninth on the WTC table, earning the smallest slice of the pie, it still represents a noteworthy financial return in a campaign where on-field results fell well short of expectations.

ICC World Test Championship Prize Money

Position Team Prize Money (USD)
1st Australia/South Africa $3,600,000
2nd Australia/South Africa $2,160,000
3rd India $1,440,000
4th New Zealand $1,200,000
5th England $960,000
6th Sri Lanka $840,000
7th Bangladesh $720,000
8th West Indies $600,000
9th Pakistan $480,000

The third WTC cycle has seen the prize pool more than double from previous editions — the winners in 2021 and 2023 took home just $1.6 million each, while this year’s champions will receive a staggering $3.6 million. The runners-up will collect $2.16 million, up from $800,000 in the past.

This major boost is part of the ICC’s broader effort to enhance the profile and prestige of Test cricket, particularly in an era where white-ball formats dominate the commercial narrative.

Pakistan’s underwhelming finish in ninth spot reflects a turbulent cycle — marked by series defeats both home and away and a lack of long-term planning in the red-ball setup. Under Shan Masood’s captaincy, the side failed to capitalize on home conditions and missed a potential chance to play the WTC Final.

With potential leadership changes on the horizon and a push for red-ball revival under a new coaching setup, this payout may serve as financial consolation, but there’s plenty of soul-searching ahead.
