Currency Notes With Pen Marks Banned – Here’s The Truth

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has rejected claims that Pakistani Rupee (PKR) currency notes bearing pen marks or handwriting will become invalid from July 1, 2025.

The central bank has called such reports false and misleading.

SBP Chief Spokesperson Noor Ahmed clarified that the central bank has issued no such notification. The statement came in response to a fake notice circulating on social media and some news platforms suggesting that marked currency notes would cease to be legal tender next fiscal year.

The spokesperson added that currency notes are a national asset and should be handled with care to preserve their integrity, but there is no policy to ban the use of notes with pen markings.
