The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has launched an internal inquiry into an alleged embezzlement of Rs. 1.5 billion, following the discovery that Rs. 3 billion in securities related to the metro bus and other projects have been missing since 2016.
According to a senior RDA official, the matter came to light during a review of the civic body’s accounts. An audit, ordered by RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza, revealed only Rs. 1.5 billion in various bank accounts, with no record of the remaining amount or any interest accrued over the last nine years.
Three retired officials from the finance department — a director, deputy director, and an assistant — were summoned to clarify the issue. A six-member committee has been formed to investigate the missing funds.
The former officials have been given two days to respond. Failure to do so, the official stated, would be treated as an admission of guilt.
DG Kinza Murtaza confirmed that Rs. 1.5 billion is still unaccounted for. She stated that a private firm would be hired for a detailed audit and that the case may be referred to the NAB, FIA, or Anti-Corruption Department. The Punjab government has also been informed.
