Punjab to Create Tourism Police

In a major step toward enhancing security and facilities for tourists, the Punjab government has decided to establish a dedicated Tourism Police force across the province. The Chief Minister has issued directives for the swift formation of this specialized unit.

According to official sources, the first phase will see the deployment of tourism police in key locations including Lahore, Murree, Nankana Sahib, Bahawalpur, and Kartarpur. The newly formed force will operate under the command of the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police, with Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) in the respective areas overseeing local operations.

This tourism force will be equipped with modern technology. Sources revealed that patrol vehicles will be fitted with advanced tracking systems and software designed to collect and manage tourist-related data efficiently.

The primary objective of the Tourism Police is to provide a secure and welcoming environment for visitors while also ensuring the safety and protection of popular tourist destinations across Punjab.
