Thailand has reinstated the requirement for tourist visa applicants to provide proof of financial means, effective May 2025. This policy was previously lifted in November 2023 to ease entry for international travelers.
Applicants for a Thai tourist visa must now show they have at least 20,000 THB available, typically through recent bank statements or a letter of sponsorship. This change applies to travelers from countries not eligible for visa-free entry.
Thai embassies globally, including in countries like the U.S., France, and Norway, have begun enforcing this updated requirement.
In addition to proof of funds, applicants must still submit standard documents such as a passport copy, a recent photo, evidence of residence, a round-trip flight ticket, and hotel bookings.
At present, nationals of 93 countries can enter Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days. However, Thai officials are considering reducing this period to 30 days, citing concerns over misuse. No official decision has been made, but changes could be announced in the coming months.
As of May 1, 2025, Thailand requires all foreign visitors to complete the new Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before travel. The TDAC replaces the former TM6 paper form and collects traveler information such as personal details, itinerary, and accommodation address.
Those unable to fill out the form before departure and without internet access upon arrival will receive limited assistance at immigration. However, authorities emphasize that travelers should complete the TDAC in advance to avoid delays.
The TDAC is required for all entrants, regardless of visa status.
