China has launched a fleet of driverless mining trucks in Mongolia, marking a significant step in the automation of heavy industry. The initiative is led by the state-backed Huanying Group, with core technology supplied by Huawei.
According to Chinese media reports, the autonomous trucks are powered by 5G Advanced (5G-A) networks, enabling real-time communication, precision control, and enhanced safety features. A total of 100 self-driving trucks are now operational at mining sites in Mongolia.
Engineered for fully autonomous operation, the trucks are capable of automatically loading and unloading materials. The vehicles are also built to perform reliably in extreme weather conditions, a key feature for remote and rugged mining environments.
The deployment highlights China’s growing focus on AI-driven infrastructure and industrial automation, with telecommunications technologies like Huawei’s 5 G-A playing a critical role. The project reflects a broader trend in leveraging smart technologies to improve operational efficiency and reduce human labor in high-risk industries such as mining.
