The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced that salaries and pensions for all provincial employees will be paid by May 30, ahead of the upcoming Eid ul Adha holidays.
According to a notification issued by the KP Finance Department, instructions have been sent to all relevant departments to ensure that the payments are processed before the end of the month.
Officials noted that June 1 falls on a Sunday — a non-working day — prompting the early disbursement. The decision has been made in anticipation of Eid ul Adha, which will be observed based on the sighting of the Zul-Hijjah moon.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has called a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on May 27 in Islamabad to determine the beginning of the Islamic month. The session will be led by the committee’s chairman, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad.
Zonal committees will also convene in major cities on the same evening to gather testimonies about the moon sighting.
A spokesperson from the Ministry stated, “If the moon is sighted on May 27, Eidul Adha will fall on June 6. Otherwise, the festival will be held on June 7.”
Separately, an astronomer has predicted that the moon is more likely to be visible on May 28, which could push the celebration of Eid to June 7 across most regions.
