Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the country’s largest model cattle market at Shahpur Kanjran in Lahore, a major move aimed at transforming the livestock sector in the province.
Spanning 74 acres, the newly launched market can accommodate up to 25,000 large animals and 150,000 small animals. It is designed with modern infrastructure, including shaded enclosures and veterinary facilities, to enhance the experience for traders and buyers.
Furthermore, fans have been installed inside animal sheds to provide relief during the hot summer months. A quarantine center has also been established to safeguard livestock from contagious diseases.
The market includes 20 residential rooms for traders, a mosque, restrooms, a veterinary clinic, a tuck shop, a bank, and an ATM. A modern slaughterhouse, auction bay, truck center, and designated loading and unloading zones are also part of the layout.
Security and convenience have been addressed with a police post, spacious parking, and open operational areas.
During her visit, CM Maryam Nawaz inspected the facilities and presented shields to key contributors involved in the project. A second model cattle market, slightly smaller in scale, is also planned for Jhang.
