Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to Meet Today to Sight Zilhajj Moon

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to convene in Islamabad today to sight the moon of Zilhajj 1446 Hijri.

The meeting will be chaired by Committee Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad. Meanwhile, Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will also hold separate sessions at their respective headquarters across the country to gather moon sighting testimonies.

The sighting of the Zilhajj moon marks the beginning of the Islamic month in which millions of Muslims around the world travel to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, falls on the 10th day of Zilhajj and is expected to be observed this year on 7 June, depending on the moon sighting.

The festival honors the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Muslims commemorate this event by slaughtering animals—typically goats, cows, or sheep—with the meat distributed among family, friends, and those in need.

The practice continues over the three days of Eid, reflecting values of charity, community, and faith.
