Apple and Samsung dominated global smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2025, according to the latest report from Counterpoint Research. Together, the two companies accounted for nine of the top ten best-selling smartphones globally, with Xiaomi being the only other brand to secure a spot on the list.
The iPhone 16 emerged as the best-selling smartphone between January and March 2025. This marks the first time since 2023 that the standard iPhone model led global sales. The device performed particularly well in Japan, the Middle East, and Africa, where it recorded its highest growth rates.
Following the iPhone 16, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro ranked second and third, respectively. The Pro models alone contributed to nearly half of Apple’s total iPhone sales during the quarter. The iPhone 15, last year’s standard model, claimed the fourth spot.
Samsung’s Galaxy A16 5G ranked fifth, becoming the company’s top-selling smartphone. It was followed by the Galaxy A06 in sixth place. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung’s only premium-tier model to make the list, took seventh place.
Xiaomi’s Redmi 14C secured the eighth position, making it the only device from a brand other than Apple or Samsung to appear in the top ten rankings.
The Galaxy A55 and iPhone 16 Plus rounded out the top ten in ninth and tenth places, respectively.
