Veteran all-rounder Imad Wasim has shared his thoughts on the appointment of Mike Hesson as Pakistan’s new head coach, calling it a positive step and expressing hope that the New Zealander’s arrival will bring much-needed consistency to Pakistan cricket.
Speaking to ProPakistani’s How Does it Work Podcast, Imad expressed hope that Hesson’s appointment will bring a much-needed change in the way Pakistan plays white-ball cricket. However, he was quick to caution that there has to be a method behind the madness to succeed in today’s game.
“There is a difference between reckless, stupidity and fearlessness. There is fine line among these and you cannot cross it. You cannot go crazy, even England has a criteria on how they go about especially with T20 Cricket,” he said. “Mike Hesson understands the game really well. I have spoken to him about cricket and he looks to be a very good coach and let’s see what happens,” Imad Wasim added.
Mike Hesson, who coaches Imad Wasim in PSL at Islamabad United, officially took over the reins earlier this month and is leading the team during the ongoing T20I series. Known for his calm nature and sharp cricketing mind, Hesson previously coached New Zealand from 2012 to 2018 and also worked with IPL sides Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings.
Imad, who no longer applies his trade in the international game, believes that Hesson’s biggest challenge will be dealing with the drama associated with Pakistan cricket.
“I still believe that if you give them time like four to six months or three four series then it could work. I want to see Pakistan playing good cricket and we will see how it goes,” Imad Wasim added on the subject.
As Pakistan look to rebuild under a new coaching setup, Imad’s words reflect a growing sense of hope and responsibility in the squad. With Mike Hesson at the helm, the team is aiming to find stability and success — both of which have been missing in recent times.
