The Punjab government has imposed a ban on all temporary mechanical swings during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha holidays, according to a directive from the Punjab Home Department.
The decision is aimed at preventing accidents and safeguarding lives, particularly as families and children flock to funfairs and amusement parks during the festive season. The ban targets mechanical rides that are temporarily set up and often lack proper safety measures, especially regarding overloading.
Permanent mechanical rides in established amusement parks are exempt from the ban, provided they meet strict safety standards. The Home Department has instructed that all permanent rides must have valid fitness certificates issued by the respective Deputy Commissioners.
District administrations have been tasked with verifying the safety of each ride and ensuring compliance with the new directive. Deputy Commissioners are required to strictly enforce the ban and ensure that no temporary mechanical rides operate during the Eid holidays.
The Home Department emphasized that temporary rides, often installed without proper engineering checks, pose significant risks to public safety during periods of high usage.
