Former NADRA Chairman Booked Over $25 Million Corruption Scandal

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has reportedly filed a case against former NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik and 12 others over alleged financial irregularities amounting to $25 million. Among those named are former Chief Project Director Gohar Ahmed Khan and several top officials.

The case was registered following Interior Ministry directives, based on a Transparency International report pointing to serious procurement violations.

Officials are accused of breaching Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules, accepting kickbacks, and causing heavy losses to the national exchequer.

FIA sources revealed that NADRA bought smart cards at 99 cents each, despite the market price being just 3 cents. In 2020, the cost per card was 68 cents, which inexplicably rose to 99 cents by 2022. Investigators say tender procedures were manipulated to benefit a specific firm.
