Pakistan cricket’s revolution under Mike Hesson will likely also include changes to the PCB as well, with reports from Geo News suggesting that the men’s selection committee will be revamped in the coming days to align properly with the newly formed values.
The current selection committee, formed in October 2024 by the PCB, comprises Aaqib Javed, Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, and data analyst Hassan Cheema. This panel was granted full authority to select both squads and playing XIs, a departure from previous structures that included input from the team captain and head coach. Now their powers are being curtailed, with reports claiming that former captain Azhar Ali, ex-middle-order batter Asad Shafiq, and veteran umpire Aleem Dar are likely to be relieved of their duties.
The selection committee’s reshuffle comes at a time when the PCB is already implementing broader changes, including domestic appointments and removal of several roles.
The PCB has yet to confirm who will replace the trio, if anyone at all. Mike Hesson had earlier confirmed that he was part of the selection committee which finalized the squad for the home series against Bangladesh, so the new committee could very well just be Hesson, Aaqib Javed, and Hassan Cheema with no further additions.
As the PCB navigates these changes, the focus remains on revitalizing the team’s performance and restoring confidence among fans and stakeholders. The restructuring of the selection committee is seen as a step towards achieving these objectives.
