WhatsApp Will Let You Make Your Own Personalized AI Chatbots

WhatsApp has begun rolling out a feature that allows users to create personalized AI-powered chatbots within the app, starting with its latest beta release for iOS, version 25.17.10.75, available through the TestFlight program.

This new feature enables some beta testers to design and customize AI chat assistants directly within WhatsApp. Previously, users had to visit Meta AI Studio or use Instagram and Messenger to access this feature. The direct integration into WhatsApp offers a more seamless and accessible experience.

Similar to OpenAI’s Custom GPTs

Users can tailor every aspect of their chatbot, including name, personality, tone, appearance, and intended role. Think of it as WhatsApp’s version of OpenAI’s make your own GPT feature.

Suggested roles include study coach, travel planner, or motivational assistant. WhatsApp guides users through a structured setup process, offering templates and smart suggestions based on previous choices.

At each stage, users receive options adapted to the inputs they’ve provided. WhatsApp also generates a visual AI avatar, which users can modify to better match their assistant’s character.

Sharable Chatbots

Once the chatbot setup is complete, users can immediately begin chatting with their new assistant. While the chatbot is private by default, WhatsApp offers a shareable link feature for users who want to make their assistant accessible to friends or groups.

This feature is particularly useful for chatbots intended to provide general assistance or entertainment, such as fitness coaching or travel advice. Private use remains ideal for more personal applications, including journaling or task management, or maybe AI girlfriends.

Rollout and Availability

Currently, the feature is available to a limited number of beta testers and will gradually expand to more users in the coming weeks. WhatsApp has not confirmed a specific timeline for the global release.
