Heavy Fines Announced for Traffic Violations in Karachi

The Sindh government has introduced strict new fines in Karachi for violating one-way traffic rules and driving without a valid license. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Sindh Home and Law Minister Zia Lanjar, as part of broader amendments to the Motor Vehicles Rules.

Under the new regulations, government vehicles caught violating one-way traffic in Karachi will face a fine of Rs 200,000, while private vehicles will be fined Rs. 100,000 and motorcycles Rs. 25,000. Driving without a license will now result in a Rs. 25,000 fine for motorcycles and Rs. 50,000 for cars.

The meeting also approved mandatory third-party fitness testing for all commercial and non-commercial vehicles and a complete ban on four-seater rickshaws. Two-seater rickshaws will require prior permission to operate on the roads.

Additional measures include mandatory installation of trackers and sensors in water tankers and dumpers, and at least five cameras in freight vehicles. Fines for one-wheeling and drifting have also been set at Rs. 100,000 for a first offense, increasing to Rs. 200,000 and Rs. 300,000 for repeat violations.
