The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the monsoon season is likely to begin in parts of the country from July 1, with rain expected in northeastern Punjab, Kashmir and northern areas.
PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir said monsoon currents are expected to enter the country through northeastern Punjab and Kashmir, bringing rainfall to northern regions and parts of Punjab.
He said Sindh is not expected to receive monsoon rains in the coming days, adding that there is currently no forecast for rainfall in the province until July 5.
Regarding Karachi, the spokesperson said a low pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal could bring rain to the city and other parts of Sindh. However, he noted that Karachi and the rest of Sindh are likely to receive below normal rainfall during this year’s monsoon season.
Anjum Nazir also said India recorded 43 percent below normal rainfall during June.
