Incomplete Flyover Opened for Traffic in Rawalpindi

The Nawaz Sharif Flyover on Adiala Road in Rawalpindi has been opened to traffic, even though the service roads are yet to be completed.

According to a senior official of the Communication and Works Department, the work on the service roads would be completed as soon as possible after diverting traffic on the flyover. The lights and decoration work on the flyover have already been completed, and the electricity poles are expected to be relocated within the next two to three days.

Additionally, the carpeting of the service roads is anticipated to be finished within a week. The Nawaz Sharif Flyover, which spans 1,915 feet in length and 52 feet in width, was constructed at a total cost of Rs 2.113 billion.

Meanwhile, progress on the double barrel GPO underpass on The Mall is moving forward rapidly. The carpeting work has been completed, and construction on the service roads has begun. The official highlighted that work on the underpass continued uninterrupted during the Eid holidays, with the carpeting and water drainage lines being finalized. It is expected that the work on the service roads will be completed by June 20.

The GPO underpass, stretching over a kilometer in length, is being constructed at a cost of Rs 4.6 billion. It will connect TM Chowk in front of GHQ to the Military Hospital, making The Mall signal-free. According to estimates, the underpass will benefit approximately 250,000 vehicles daily and significantly reduce traffic jams in the area.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is likely to inaugurate both the Nawaz Sharif Flyover and the GPO underpass on June 20.
