After the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Indian media outlets quickly started spreading rumors online, blaming Turkish Technic, a well-known aircraft maintenance company. However, these claims have been proven false by independent fact-checkers.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed on Thursday afternoon. In the aftermath, social media was flooded with misleading posts, including videos and photos, suggesting the aircraft had been serviced by Turkish Technic.
Anadolu Agency’s Fact-Check Line, a service dedicated to verifying news and combating misinformation, investigated these allegations. Their findings were clear: the crashed aircraft was a Boeing 787-8, while the images circulating online showed a completely different model—a Boeing 777—outside Turkish Technic’s hangars.
Further clarification came from Turkish Technic itself. In an official statement, the company confirmed that its maintenance agreement with Air India only covers the airline’s Boeing 777 fleet, not the 787 Dreamliner involved in the crash. All maintenance for the 777s is performed at Turkish Technic’s facilities in Istanbul, and the ill-fated 787 had never been serviced by them.
Authorities and aviation experts are urging the public to be cautious about unverified information, especially during sensitive times. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and officials have promised to share accurate updates as soon as they are available.
