Amid widespread reports circulating on social media claiming that all of Lahore’s electricity poles are being replaced with underground wires, the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has clarified that the initiative is limited to Mall Road. Only the overhead cables along this key thoroughfare are being removed and replaced with underground wiring, not the entire city.
First of Its Kind Project
The project, which spans from the State Bank to the Hall Road signal, aims to enhance the visual appeal and functionality of Mall Road by removing unsightly overhead electricity cables and burying them underground. This initiative is the first of its kind to be carried out outside the historic walled city area, building on similar successful efforts in other locations like the Royal Trail and Bhatti Gate.
Only on Mall Road, For Now
Social media posts have sparked confusion by implying that the project is a citywide effort to replace all electricity poles in Lahore. However, WCLA’s focus is specifically on Mall Road, a major route that connects several important areas of the city. The goal is to improve the aesthetics of this iconic route while also reducing the risk of accidents associated with overhead cables.
Modernizing Lahore’s Infrastructure
Dr. Asif Tufail, Director General of WCLA, emphasized that while the project will help enhance the visual appeal of Mall Road and improve safety, it is not part of a city-wide overhaul of Lahore’s electrical infrastructure. The undergrounding of cables along Mall Road is expected to not only beautify the area but also improve the reliability of the power supply.

Extremely misleading heading. Write better articles instead of using these cheap tactics.
What about encroachment program in Lahore many areas are still healthy in this aspect
By giving unclear heading purposefully you want others to support you? In your dreams dear
Not first of a kind project kindly visit bharia town lahore more advance the so call lahore
bro bahria town is a privately owned suburb. Govt only approves their construction projects and is not directly associated with their projects
Kudos to WCLA for this aesthetical initiative. I hope this commendable move to replace the overhead cables and poles is not limited to the Mall Road only rather the objective of this scheme is to beautify and make entire Lahore, albeit in phases, hazard-free, with its focus being on the city.
