Punjab Allocates Rs. 10 Billion for Yellow Line Mass Transit System

The Punjab government has allocated a significant budget of Rs. 85 billion for the transport sector in the upcoming fiscal year, aiming to improve urban mobility and public transportation infrastructure across the province.

A key focus of this allocation is the Yellow Line Mass Transit System, with an initial Rs. 10 billion earmarked to kick-start this vital project. The Yellow Line will become a major component of Lahore’s expanding metro network, providing better connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.

In addition to this, the government has allocated Rs. 4.57 billion for ongoing transport projects, ensuring the continuation of vital initiatives already in progress. A hefty Rs. 80.43 billion has been set aside for new ventures aimed at modernizing the province’s transportation system.

Further investments include Rs. 50 million for implementing a centralized automated fare collection and scheduling system for buses, and Rs. 5 million for the security arrangements for Chinese staff at the Orange Line Metro Train depot.

The budget also focuses on infrastructure improvements, with Rs. 500 million for an urban bus depot at Thokar Niaz Baig, Rs. 400 million for another depot near the Lahore Railway Station, and Rs. 200 million for electric bus depots.

Other initiatives include feasibility studies for future mass transit projects, vehicle testing laboratories, and a dedicated Transport Tower with Rs. 10 million allocated for its development.
