Karachi Bans Rickshaws on 20 Major Roads

The Commissioner of Karachi Division, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has imposed a two-month ban on small rickshaws — specifically those carrying 2 to 4 passengers — on 20 key roads across the city. The decision, effective immediately from June 16 to August 15, 2025, aims to ease severe traffic congestion and improve road safety during peak hours.

The ban targets 1+2 and 1+4 seater rickshaws, which include traditional auto-rickshaws and larger Qingqi-type rickshaws.

These vehicles will not be allowed to operate on the following roads:

1. Shahrah-e-Faisal (Avari Light Signal to Madam Apartment)
2. I.I. Chundrigar Road (Tower to Shaheen Complex)
3. Shahrah-e-Quaideen (from Numaish to Shahrah-e-Faisal/Nursery)
4. New Shahrah-e-Faisal (Metric Board Office to Nagan Chowrangi)
5. Shaheed-e-Millat Road (Jam Chowrangi to Shaheed Millat Expressway)
6. Abdullah Haroon Road to 2 Talwar via Hoshang and Khayaban-e-Iqbal
7. 2 Talwar to Shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi
8. Stadium Road (Millennium Mall to New Town PS)
9. Sir Shah Suleman Road (Hassan Square to Karsaz)
10. Rashid Minhas Road (Drigh Road to Sohrab Goth)
11. Mauripur Road (Gubiat to ICI Bridge)
12. Shahrah-e-Pakistan (Sohrab Goth to Liaquatabad No. 10)
13. Hub River Road (Paracha Chowk to Saeedabad Police Training Center)
14. From Quaidabad to Landhi 89
15. University Road (from Safoora to Jail Chowrangi)
16. Korangi Road (FTC to Qayyumabad)
17. Korangi Road (Qayyumabad to Korangi Crossing)
18. Orangi Road (Raees Amrohi Colony to Board Office)
19. From Super Highway to Malir Halt via Check Post No. 5 and Malir Cantt
20. From Surjani (Abdullah Chowk) to Sohrab Goth via Nagan Chowrangi

Police have been instructed to take strict action against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Citizens are advised to use alternative modes of transport on these routes during the ban period.

This temporary measure is expected to reduce road blockages and improve travel time across Karachi.
