Punjab Introduces New Number Plate Policy for Electric Vehicles

In a move to promote eco-friendly transportation, Punjab authorities have introduced special green-colored number plates exclusively for electric vehicles (EVs).

The new plates will replace standard ones, and all EV owners will now be required to display these green plates on their vehicles.

According to Additional DG Ahmad Saeed, the green plates aim to visibly distinguish electric vehicles from conventional fuel-based ones, supporting the government’s initiative to encourage environmentally friendly choices.

He revealed that so far, over 16,000 electric vehicles have been registered across Punjab. These include approximately 14,500 electric motorcycles, 1,461 electric cars, 36 electric rickshaws, and 31 electric buses.

Ahmad Saeed also noted that the government has already been offering significant financial relief to EV owners. A 95% discount on registration and token tax is currently being provided.

He confirmed that this tax relief will continue into the next financial year to further incentivize the use of electric vehicles.
