The Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police has ordered a province-wide crackdown on the illegal use of government registration number plates on private vehicles.
According to an official directive issued by the Sindh Police, some government officers have been using official registration plates on their personal vehicles, a practice that has been declared illegal and a misuse of official privileges.
The directive states that the misuse of government number plates undermines transparency and creates obstacles for law enforcement. It reiterates that official registration plates must only be used on government-allotted vehicles.
The IG has directed police field formations across Sindh to launch a special campaign to identify private vehicles displaying illegal government registration plates. He also made it clear that no individual will be allowed to install, display, or use government number plates on a private vehicle under any circumstances.
The order says action will be taken against all violators regardless of their rank or official position. Illegal government number plates will be confiscated, while vehicles may also be taken into custody where necessary. Criminal cases may also be registered if the legal requirements are met.
Supervisory officers have been instructed to personally ensure the strict implementation of the directive. The IG further warned that any negligence or undue favor shown to violators will result in departmental action.
The orders have been issued with immediate effect across Sindh.
