Individuals aspiring to pursue a law degree can now apply for admission at any stage in life, as Punjab University’s Academic Council has approved the removal of the session gap condition for its LLB program.
Previously, candidates were restricted by a five-year session gap limit after completing intermediate education. The university’s Board of Studies had recommended eliminating this restriction, and the proposal now awaits final approval from the university’s Syndicate.
Law admissions at Punjab University Law College were traditionally offered to students immediately after intermediate education. However, due to the session gap policy, many potential applicants—especially those returning to education later in life—were unable to enroll.
To make legal education more accessible, the Board of Studies advocated removing the session gap, allowing a wider range of students to pursue an LLB regardless of when they completed their earlier studies.
Additionally, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has revised the duration of the LLB Honours program, reducing it from five years to four.
This policy shift is expected to open doors for many who had previously been excluded from legal education due to rigid admission criteria.
