The upgradation project of Skardu International Airport has been formally launched, marking a significant milestone in enhancing aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The project launching meeting was held at a local resort in Skardu, where the joint venture consultancy, comprising Swiss firm Intairplan and its Pakistani partners, presented their strategic approach for the airport’s upgradation and development.
Senior officials from the Pakistan Airports Authority were present on the occasion, including the Director Planning & Development, the Additional Director Project Monitoring, the Project Director Skardu International Airport, and the Airport Manager Skardu. Also in attendance were senior representatives from local government, the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholder institutions.
The cost of the airport’s upgradation design consultancy has been set at Rs. 180 million. Construction work is scheduled to commence within a year, following the completion of the detailed design and PC-1.
All stakeholders reaffirmed their full support for the timely completion of the project. They commended the efforts of the Pakistan Airports Authority in positioning Skardu as a gateway for international tourism and trade, and in contributing to the broader economic uplift of the region through improved air connectivity.
The Skardu International Airport Upgradation Project represents a major milestone in the development of Gilgit-Baltistan and will open new opportunities for growth, prosperity, and global integration.
