The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved the purchase of 50 additional diesel-hybrid buses for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.2 billion.
The decision was made during the 34th cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. A statement said the fleet expansion was necessary due to increased demand and the extension of BRT routes from six to eight.
TransPeshawar had initially acquired 220 buses, later adding 24 in 2022, bringing the total to 244 before this new approval.
The cabinet also approved the merger of campuses under the Annual Development Plan Scheme of ZamungKor — a model institute for state children — located in Swat, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad, and the Girls Campus in Peshawar, into the main autonomous institute based in Peshawar.
The main campus currently accommodates 600 children, while 425 are enrolled in the merged campuses.
Additionally, the cabinet approved an agreement with Pak Qatar Asset Management, marking it as the 13th asset management company operating under the Contributory Provident Fund Rules, 2022. This move is part of the province’s long-term pension reforms initiated in 2015.
Amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Public Services Act, 2014, were also approved during the meeting.
