The Lahore City Traffic Police has announced a citywide crackdown on vehicles using fake, fancy, or non-standard number plates. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr. Athar Waheed ordered a three-day awareness campaign before the launch of the enforcement drive.
According to CTO Waheed, starting Friday, cases will be registered against individuals using unauthorized number plates. During the three-day period leading up to the crackdown, vehicle owners found with non-standard or altered plates will be issued warnings instead of immediate penalties.
“The purpose of this initial campaign is to spread awareness among citizens and give them an opportunity to comply with regulations before legal action is taken,” said Waheed.
He also confirmed that the crackdown will not be limited to drivers alone, as action will also be initiated against manufacturers of fake number plates.
CTO Waheed warned that tampering with license plates to avoid e-challans is a criminal offense and will be dealt with accordingly.
The traffic police have urged all citizens to ensure their vehicles display officially approved number plates to avoid legal complications and contribute to improved enforcement of traffic laws in the city.

Good move by Punjab police. Government should also ensure provision of original number plates to all the car owners. Government should abolish Excise and Taxation department as it is outdated and just a burden on taxpayers money
I bet this will only apply to common citizens not with political background.
As well as these government officials including Police.
My suggestion to CTO is that they should launch a WhatsApp channel where citizens can post pictures of vehicles found roaming in city with tampered or custom number plates. This will help enforcement because traffic police is stationary at rood crossing and somehow only see motorcycles at fault.
Traffic police has been sleeping for years and now suddenly they wake up and start behaving like they are in the usa. Traffic warden will take money and let the guy go
