Punjab is expected to experience 25% more rainfall than usual this monsoon season, according to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Irfan Ali Kathia. The PDMA has warned that this increase in rainfall could impact several regions, and authorities have been placed on high alert.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain for Karachi starting Friday, June 27, potentially bringing an end to the city’s prolonged heatwave and high humidity levels.
Monsoon Season Begins in Punjab
The first wave of monsoon rains has already started in Punjab and is likely to continue until July 1, the PDMA confirmed. The weather system is expected to bring strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall to various districts.
In response, Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed has instructed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to stay prepared. Emergency services, including Rescue 1122 and WASA, have been placed on standby.

Rain and thunderstorms are anticipated in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujarat, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali.
Southern Punjab, including Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Dera Ghazi Khan, is forecast to receive rainfall between June 26 and 28.
An alert has been issued to several departments — including Health, Irrigation, Local Government, Livestock, and Communication & Works — following directives from the chief minister.
The PDMA has urged residents to take extra care during severe weather, remain indoors during thunderstorms, and avoid unnecessary travel. Tourists are advised to check weather conditions before heading to hilly areas, as there is a risk of landslides in Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding mountainous regions. In emergencies, people can call the PDMA helpline at 1129.
Karachi Forecast
In a separate weather advisory, the PMD has issued a three-day forecast for Karachi, predicting scattered rain and thunderstorms on Friday evening.
Today, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy, hot, and humid, with temperatures reaching 34-36°C and morning humidity at 72%.
Tomorrow (Thursday), the forecast indicates humid and partly cloudy conditions, with a chance of light showers or drizzle. The temperature is expected to remain between 35-37°C, with humidity levels around 70-80%.
By Friday, the city may experience isolated thunderstorms and rain, while daytime conditions will remain hot and humid.
