The prime suspect in the murder of 17-year-old TikTok star Sana Yousaf has confessed to the crime, sources close to the investigation confirmed on Tuesday.
Umar Hayat, a resident of Faisalabad, recorded his confessional statement under Section 164 before Magistrate Saad Nazir in Islamabad. In his statement, Umar admitted to fatally shooting Sana at her home on June 3 after she declined to meet him.
The accused claimed he had brought a birthday gift for Sana, which she refused to accept. According to his confession, Sana first asked him to leave when he attempted to visit. Later, when he was invited again on June 2 but couldn’t meet her, he said he was overwhelmed with anger. “I was deeply hurt,” he told the magistrate.
Driven by rage, Umar said he returned to Sana’s home the next day and killed her.
Sana Yousaf was a rising social media influencer with nearly 800,000 followers on TikTok and half a million on Instagram. Her death has sparked widespread outrage online and reignited conversations about the safety of women in the digital world.
Islamabad police had earlier said the murder stemmed from Sana’s refusal to continue her friendship with the accused. Umar remains in custody, with a local court extending his physical remand by three more days as investigations proceed.
