Even though BlackBerry is long gone, there’s still a niche but loyal market for smartphones with physical keyboards. Chinese tech company Unihertz, known for its compact Android phones, is leaning into that space again with the Titan 2, the successor to its original BlackBerry Passport-style device.
This time, it comes equipped with modern features, including 5G connectivity, a faster chip, and the latest Android 15 OS.
The Titan 2 features a 4.5-inch display, slightly smaller than the screen on the original model, but with a bump in resolution from 1,430 x 1,438 pixels to 1,440 x 1,440 pixels. There is also a second screen on the back sized at 2-inches with a resolution of 410 x 502 pixels. Its meant to show notificiations, widgets, or framing selfies with the main camera.
Unihertz says it has redesigned the physical QWERTY keyboard to offer a more comfortable and responsive typing experience. The keys now support customizable shortcuts for both short and long presses, and users can swipe their fingers across the keyboard to scroll.
Unihertz has also refined the design: the Titan 2 is noticeably slimmer, shedding nearly 6mm in thickness — now measuring 10.85mm — and trimming down its weight by 68 grams to a total of 235 grams.
The Titan 2 also brings several technical improvements over its predecessor. It now supports Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, an infrared blaster, dual-band GPS, and even includes an FM radio. Meanwhile, familiar features like the fingerprint sensor and dual programmable shortcut buttons remain part of the package.
Under the hood, the Titan 2 runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, an eight-core chip clocked between 2.0 and 2.6GHz, supported by 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. This is a mid-range chip that can handle daily use, but not heavy gaming.
The phone houses a 5,050 mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging, but no wireless charging, which is not uncommon in the mid-range tier. As for cameras, there are two on the back, a main 50MP shooter and an 8MP telephoto zoom camera. There’s also a 32MP selfie camera onboard.
The retail price for the Unihertz Titan 2 is going to be around $399.
