The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning for possible glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) and flash floods in five districts—Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, and Upper Kohistan—following a fresh forecast of heavy rain.
According to the PDMA, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted a wet spell from June 26 to July 1, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy downpours.
District administrations have been directed to take precautionary measures to prevent loss of life, damage to infrastructure, and crop destruction. The PDMA urged early warnings for communities in vulnerable regions and the deployment of emergency and rescue teams.
A broader weather alert was also issued for rain and thunderstorms across 30+ districts including Mansehra, Kohistan, Mardan, and Peshawar. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall may lead to flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides, especially in low-lying and hilly areas.
Meanwhile, in Angoor Adda, South Waziristan, a powerful windstorm and torrential rain damaged homes, shops, and Jamia Masjid Farooqia. Cleric Maulana Tasbeehullah Wazir reported major losses, including solar panels. Locals have called for immediate relief and compensation from the authorities.
