The Punjab government has initiated steps to make The Mall signal-free between Katcheri Chowk and Motorway Chowk in Rawalpindi, directing the Housing and Urban Development Department to begin surveying the area.
A senior department official said the project would be implemented in phases to avoid disrupting daily public movement. The comprehensive plan includes the construction of four underpasses and two flyovers.
In the first phase, construction on the Katcheri Chowk Underpass will begin once the ongoing GPO Underpass project on The Mall is completed. The Katcheri Chowk development, including underpass construction and road widening, has been estimated at Rs. 4.450 billion, with Rs. 160 million allocated in the new fiscal year starting July 1.
Additional infrastructure planned includes the Rs. 2.6 billion Race Course Underpass, Rs. 1.5 billion Chairing Cross Underpass (Rs. 54 million allocated this year), and the Rs. 1.9 billion Army Graveyard Chowk Underpass (Rs. 68 million allocated).
Flyovers include the Rs. 4.150 billion Jinnah Park Flyover (Rs. 149 million allocated) and Rs. 3.450 billion Ammar Chowk Flyover (Rs. 124 million allocated). The official confirmed that consultants would be hired for feasibility studies and PC-I preparation before construction begins.

How many roads & flyovers will be built how much concrete will be filled in this city, this is not issue main issue quick migration from smaller never developed cities & towns, explosion of population, decision don’t treat the root cause they look for temporary remedies, if develop all cities unifornally pressure on this may reduce, when people migrate they are reckless, lawless on roads streets & everywhere, after a decade whole city will be choked with multi story flyovers multi story roads , time to think logically instead of developing One City, develop all cities, control atom bomb of population.
Breaking limits of national treasury on staggering high cost of road building, putting the nation into critical debt repayment
