Govt Officially Launches App to Let Consumers Count Their Electricity Units

The federal government has launched the “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” mobile app to improve accuracy in electricity billing and reduce overbilling.

The app allows consumers to submit meter readings by uploading a photo on a set date, which will then be used to generate their bill.

If both the consumer and meter reader submit readings, the lower reading will be accepted. If the consumer submits on time, any later reading by the meter reader will be ignored. The app is available in five languages and aims to ensure transparency, especially for subsidy-eligible consumers.

Power Minister Awais Leghari said the app would help curb overbilling and reduce complaints by giving consumers more control over the meter reading process.

The Prime Minister has directed nationwide implementation of the app and announced the abolition of the Rs. 35 PTV fee from electricity bills.

He said Pakistan loses Rs. 500 billion annually to power theft and emphasized ongoing reforms in the power sector, including changes to DISCO boards, merit-based appointments, and steps to resolve circular debt.

  • Too slow, and as its by govt most likely they tested by those who never know what is the meaning of app and unit testing.

    • They just verify that there picture has been used on the front page. Otherwise, neither govt websites nor their apps contain any useful information for the public.

        • Installed yesterday and it took around 30+ minutes to register and it keep loading forever on several options.
I don’t know why govt making bunch of useless applications, they should make all in one app and keep it updating on regular basis.

        • Yes, I have been trying to create my account since yesterday. Still unable to receive the verification code (which arrives in my inbox after 4-5 hours and expires).

  • Such kind of steps should be debated in National Assembly. Should be in camera session. People should know positive and negative of this step. This step without debate, without public awareness, will lead strongly Pakistan to default.

  • This is a time waist app needs hours to access it. Kindly some body look into it. Otherwise this app is few days gust.

  • Pathetic and not working, takes life to allow sign in and then no data is found against consumer numbers, only point scoring or may be the app is not ready to handle the scale it is meant for.

  • This App targets the class who doesn’t have Smart phones… What a pathetic approach…

  • useless app, developed and maintained by useless, good for nothing people.

    So many issues with the app but mainly two issues to begin with ;

    1. Login issues, on login attempt, the app just hangs up forever and can’t login even to the main user interface page within app.

    2. Meter can’t be added at all

The issues can’t be resolved as the developer and the development team has got no idea, clue as to what they are doing.

  • Sir reading us din hi karni hai jis din wapda walay karty hain k jis din hum chahain

  • According to which rules of business some elite classes are given special concessions ŵhere as the Article 4 say something else.
