Monsoon Rains Claim 38 Lives Across Pakistan

38 people have died and 63 others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across Pakistan during intense monsoon rains, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported on Sunday.

The highest number of casualties occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 19 people lost their lives.

Punjab reported 12 fatalities, while Sindh and Balochistan recorded a combined total of seven deaths.

The heavy monsoon showers, which swept across the country from June 26 to 28, have also caused significant damage to infrastructure, flooding in low-lying areas, and disruption of transport services in multiple regions.

Continued Weather Alert

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast continued monsoon activity in the coming days, particularly in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab’s plains, and parts of Sindh and Balochistan. Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.

Flash Flood Warning for Northern Areas

In a separate advisory, the NDMA issued a flash flood alert for Swat and nearby districts, citing the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in Gilgit-Baltistan. Rising temperatures have increased glacial melting, raising water levels and the threat of sudden downstream flooding.

Relief Efforts Underway

Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in the worst-affected areas, while provincial disaster management authorities have been instructed to stay on high alert. Emergency teams are actively working to restore infrastructure and assist displaced or affected communities.
