The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has decided to increase the demand notice charges for single-phase electricity meters.
According to the new plan, charges for obtaining a single-phase connection may rise by up to Rs11,000, raising the demand notice fee from the current Rs10,000 to as much as Rs21,000.
The cost of a standard single-phase meter is expected to be around Rs5,000, while the new AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) meter may cost up to Rs16,000, meaning consumers will have to bear a higher expense due to the upgraded meter type.
The Power Division of the Ministry of Energy has banned the installation of static meters across all power distribution companies. In line with this directive, LESCO will procure AMI single-phase meters during the current fiscal year. This transition to AMI meters is the primary reason behind the anticipated increase in demand notice charges.
Earlier, a similar revision was made for three-phase meters, where the demand notice fee was raised by up to Rs50,000.
