Government Announces Two Holidays Across Pakistan

The Federal Government has officially announced public holidays on Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6, 2025, to mark the observance of Ashura (9th and 10th Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 A.H.).

A notification issued by the Cabinet Division confirmed that all federal government offices, institutions, corporations, and departments will remain closed on these two days. However, essential services will continue to operate as usual.

Ashura, observed on the 10th of Muharram, is a day of deep religious importance for Muslims, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in the Battle of Karbala.

Strict security arrangements are expected across major cities during processions and gatherings to ensure the safety of participants. Local administrations and law enforcement agencies have also been directed to coordinate closely for the peaceful observance of the holy days.

The two-day holiday allows citizens across the country to participate in religious events and rituals held in remembrance of the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (R.A.) and his companions.
