Pakistan Assembled Over 12 Million Phones in First 5 Months of 2025

Pakistan assembled 12.05 million mobile phone handsets during the first five months of 2025, while commercial imports dropped to just 0.76 million units, according to latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Of the locally assembled phones, 6.53 million were 2G handsets and 5.52 million were smartphones. By comparison, a total of 31.38 million phones were assembled in 2024, with commercial imports limited to 1.71 million units that year.

PTA data also revealed that smartphones now account for 67 percent of all mobile devices operating on Pakistani networks, while 33 percent are still 2G.

Separately, the PTA reported receiving 10,241 consumer complaints against telecom and internet service providers in May 2025, of which 97.92 percent were resolved.

Among mobile operators, Jazz received the highest number of complaints at 3,543, followed by Zong (2,724), Telenor (1,722), and Ufone (1,129). Resolution rates remained high across the board, ranging from 97.4 percent for Ufone to 99.3 percent for Jazz.

Additional complaints included 126 cases against basic telephony services, with an 89.7 percent resolution rate, and 695 cases against internet service providers, of which 90.5 percent were resolved.
