Nooh Dastgir Butt Cleared for Comeback After Ending Dispute with PWLF

In a major breakthrough for Pakistan weightlifting, heavyweight lifter Nooh Dastgir Butt has reportedly resolved his long-standing dispute with the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF), paving the way for his much-awaited return to international competition.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist had been on the sidelines due to ongoing differences with the federation over perceived disrespect directed towards his father and his association with a PWLF competitor federation. His absence had left a noticeable void in Pakistan’s weightlifting setup, particularly in the +109kg category, where Nooh Dastgir Butt had emerged as a genuine continental force.

Due to these differences, Nooh Dastgir Butt was not allowed to take part in any weightlifting competitions both local and international, derailing his progress at a crucial time.

But after months of impasse, both sides have finally reached common ground, and according to Muneeb Farrukh, Nooh is now expected to rejoin national training camps imminently, with his eyes set on major upcoming events.

Alongside Arshad Nadeem, Nooh Dastgir Butt remains one of the few Pakistani athletes with genuine medal potential at top-tier events.

With his powerhouse presence back in the national setup, Pakistan’s weightlifting hopes have received a timely and much-needed lift.
