The federal government has developed a new version of the Pakistan Citizen Portal for Android users after multiple technical issues disrupted the app’s performance.
According to the Ministry of Information Technology, the updated build has been submitted to the Google Play Store for approval. The iOS version and the web portal remain functional, and only Android users have been affected by the disruption, the ministry confirmed.
For the past three days, users have reported repeated crashes, login failures, and an inability to register complaints through the app. “The app keeps crashing again and again,” one user said, expressing frustration over not being able to reach government departments.
The platform, once seen as a tool for transparency and accountability, has been non-functional for many Android users since early this week. Citizens demanded immediate restoration and urged the Prime Minister to take notice of the persistent issues.
The IT Ministry stated that the issue stemmed from an SSL certificate problem and code-level bugs in the Android app. “These issues affected secure connections and app stability,” the ministry clarified. The new version addresses both concerns and is now awaiting clearance from Google. Once approved, it will be available for download and should resolve all current issues.
Meanwhile, citizens are advised to use the web portal or the iOS version of the app, which are operating without any disruptions. Officials have termed the glitch as temporary and assured users that full service restoration is expected soon. “The problem is isolated to Android and will be resolved as soon as the Play Store approves the update,” the ministry reiterated.
