Pakistani-Canadians Stopped From Sponsoring Parents and Grandparents

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has paused the intake of new applications under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) for all citizens and permanent residents, including those of Pakistani origin, until further notice, while continuing to process existing cases.

The move aims to help manage demand and reduce processing pressure.

According to the official notice, IRCC will not accept new interest-to-sponsor forms or invite potential sponsors to apply for now. The department said it plans to process existing applications and approve up to 15,000 people for permanent residence in 2026.

The Parents and Grandparents Program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residence.

Families can still explore the Super Visa option, which permits extended visits without permanent residency.
