Sindh Police officers have been given a strict 10-day ultimatum to stop using gutka and mawa.
According to a letter from AIG Imran Qureshi to the Sindh Inspector General of Police, a large number of officers are reportedly regular users of these substances.
The letter highlights serious concerns from higher authorities about the ongoing use of gutka and mawa among police staff, describing it as both damaging to health and unprofessional.
The notification emphasizes that such habits not only undermine the well-being and performance of officers but also reflect poorly on the reputation of the police department.
AIG Qureshi has instructed that a list be compiled of all personnel found to be addicted to gutka or mawa. Those identified have been formally warned to quit within 10 days or face disciplinary measures, which could include dismissal.
Additionally, the letter calls for steps to support the rehabilitation of affected officers. It also requires that a comprehensive report—detailing the names, ranks, and actions taken against those involved—be submitted every two weeks to the DIGP Establishment in Karachi for further review and departmental action.
