The Sindh government has extended the deadline for installing Ajrak-themed number plates until August 14, during which time police have been instructed not to fine vehicles that have yet to switch to the new design.
The announcement was made by Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Mukesh Kumar Chawla in Karachi on Monday.
“Ajrak represents Sindh’s cultural identity and it will remain part of the new number plates,” Chawla said. He noted that while some people had raised concerns, the design also serves as a security feature.
He clarified that no fines will be issued for vehicles that have not yet replaced their plates with the official Ajrak-themed ones until the new deadline. However, other violations—such as riding without a helmet or lacking valid documents—will still be penalised as usual.
The Ajrak number plates, integrated with the Safe City project, are being rolled out for all vehicles across the province. The initiative has faced some criticism over design and legality, but the government insists the move enhances both cultural visibility and security.
Chawla reaffirmed that the new plates are mandatory, and the deadline extension is meant to give citizens more time to comply.

How do we swith to these number plates when even after 6 months of applying, you have not given these number plates. I am not going to pay for an aftermarket white plate to replace my yellow number plate. Everyone should use their yellow plates till they issue us the official number plates because they have taken full payment for it. I never received my yellow number plate despite lapse of 4 years. Public ka mazaaq banadia hai.
Awam ki ghalti.
They allowed this to happen.
The law can never be implemented in Pakistan. Another extension will be given afterv24 Aug
As many as news offices/ centers should open for easy approch to get new plate as soon as possible, n cost should be more cheaper, as lots of peoples are poor finantial conditions
We have had such hilarious ” hukmaran” who would make such decisions in the past too, so there is nothing to mind it. Imagine how ” genius” people we have around us in the name of ” Government” who are making ” ajrak number plates” a compulsion but would never bother about taking care of millions without water, sanitation and hygiene.
Sir the common question is, Those who have paid the fee for the number plate replacement but didn’t get it yet, will they also be punished or get Challan, no one haven’t clarified this, please this issue also needs to be addressed in a clear way
I thought Israeli are worst both are same promised to them 4000 years ago shit both were slaves at least now they rule it with proper education.
What about those people in Lahore or other parts of the country who have the old Karachi number plates? They were also changed as “new” number plates to avoid vehicle theft….🤔
