Govt Planning on a New Cattle Market in Lahore

The Punjab government is exploring the possibility of setting up a new cattle market in northern Lahore, modeled after the Shahpur Kanjran facility.

The idea was discussed during a meeting led by Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian, who reviewed the progress of ongoing projects and recent cattle market auctions managed by the Punjab Cattle Market Management and Development Company (PCMMDC) on Wednesday.

Secretary Mian directed that a feasibility study be carried out before moving forward, emphasizing the need to evaluate local requirements, traffic flow, business prospects, and the area’s urban infrastructure.

He highlighted that the envisioned market would provide a clean, safe, and well-organized environment, making business easier and more convenient for traders.

During the session, PCMMDC CEO Bilal Hashim shared updates on development projects and outlined the latest achievements. The meeting was also attended by Additional Secretary Development Ahmer Suhail Kaifi, Section Officer (Companies), and other key officials.

Comprehensive data on recent cattle market auctions was presented, and the group discussed the possible launch of an e-ticketing system to improve transparency and ensure accurate revenue collection.

Mian noted that adopting technology is crucial to prevent overcharging and promote openness in market operations.
