UHS to Launch PhD and Evening MSN Programs in Nursing

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) is set to introduce a PhD in Nursing along with an evening Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programme at the College of Nursing, Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC), which has now become a constituent institution of UHS.

The announcement was made by UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore during a meeting with the 26-member faculty of the nursing college.

This interaction marked the first official engagement between UHS leadership and the staff following the Punjab government’s notification of the merger on July 3.

Prof Rathore termed the merger a significant development in reshaping nursing education in Pakistan. He stated that the integration would not only enhance the academic standing of the institution but also elevate the status of nursing professionals nationally.

He assured faculty that the transition would lead to professional growth and improved benefits, matching those of current UHS staff. The university aims to strengthen academic standards, implement the COMPASS curriculum, and ensure rigorous quality assurance.

Senior UHS officials, including Pro VC Prof Nadia Naseem and Registrar Kiran Fatima, joined the meeting. The College of Nursing principal welcomed the move, expressing hope for major improvements in nursing education.
