A strict crackdown is set to begin in the city as motorcyclists without helmets will no longer be tolerated starting Monday, according to an official directive.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Athar Waheed has given the traffic police a two-day deadline to enforce the rule strictly. Legal action will also be taken against police personnel riding motorcycles without helmets or number plates.
In wireless communication to the force, all officers have been instructed to ensure the mandatory use of helmets and number plates. Those wardens who fail to take action will face disciplinary measures, including forfeiture of one year’s service.
The move comes after repeated fatal accidents, prompting the Chief Minister to order the strict implementation of helmet regulations.
The CTO stated that awareness campaigns about the mandatory use of helmets will be carried out within the next two days to inform the public.
